A note from our choir conductor

Hello! My name is Cecilia Öhrwall and I'm the proud choir conductor of the choir Gränslösa Röster (Voices Without Borders).

I'm born in Sweden and live in Stockholm.

I come from a musical family; both of my parents were involved in choir work. I have composed a significant amount of music, often arranging all the songs we sing in the choir. I also write music for documentaries and theater productions. I perform and make music with my brother, guitarist Esbjörn Öhrwall. I was part of the founding team for El Sistema in Södertälje and also work as a music teacher at folk high schools.

In the early 2000s, I collaborated with the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH) on a social music project in southern India. Since then, using music as a tool for integration has become a central focus of my life.

In 2016, we founded the choir Gränslösa Röster - Voice without Borders, and I was involved from the very beginning, co-leading the choir alongside Maria Peters and Johanna Linnaeus. What an incredible journey it has been! From the first rehearsal, the energy was overwhelming, with a sense of community, voices, harmonies, and laughter filling our initial rehearsal space at Södra Teatern!

For the past five years, I have had the privilege of leading the choir on my own. Over the years, the choir has supported me and filled my life with love and a sense of community—it feels like a big, loving family! Moreover, I have been exposed to a wealth of music in languages I might never have encountered otherwise.

In addition, I also lead the Songlines music project and the MOD choir at Mäster Olofsgården in Stockholm. These initiatives are aimed at giving young people the opportunity to make music and find a sense of social belonging.

Welcome to our community!
