Gränslösa Röster (Voices Without Borders) is a choir based in Stockholm, bringing together asylum seekers, newly arrived immigrants, and established Swedes.
Our choir reflects the diversity of modern Sweden, with members from a wide range of backgrounds, experience levels, ages, genders, professions, sexual orientations, and interests. While some of us have lived in Sweden for many years, others have recently arrived and are just starting to build new lives here.
Although we are all unique and have our differences, we share a common belief in the inherent value of every human being. We are convinced that segregation fosters prejudice and racism, and through our choir, we strive to do our part to counteract this.
Music is a universal force that unites us, breaking down linguistic and social barriers. It allows us to learn new languages and form lifelong friendships. Through Gränslösa Röster, we express our passion for music, our commitment to each other, and our vision for a more inclusive and open Sweden.
Every voice has a unique sound and we believe that the most beautiful harmony consists of a diversity of parts. We learn from each other, and our repertoire represents different musical genres in multiple languages.
Over the years we have sung songs in Spanish, English, Swedish, Arabic, Turkish, Italian, Ukrainian, Hebrew, Persian and German. We are open to all music that lends itself to beautiful harmonies and that have messages of hope, joy, tolerance and inclusion.
Most of our songs are provided by choir members and are arranged by our conductor Cecilia Örhwall.
We are a registered Non Governmental Organisation based in Stockholm, Sweden. We rely on donations from members and partners and are always looking for financial support to pay for our rehearsal venues and our musicians and fantastic choir leader. Any donation, no matter how small, helps us keep going.
